MOTOR CAR OPERATIONS AT RAILROAD PARK
Motor Cars, often called speeders by the railroads, were once the main means of transportation for maintenance of way workers, signal maintainers and track inspectors on railroads across America. Today they have been replaced by hi-rail trucks and pickups, however, a number remain in the hands of private individuals who have restored them and run them with clubs in sanctioned events on friendly short lines and out-of-service track. The Chapter was fortunate to be able to acquire a couple of these and has restored one to operating condition and offers rides to Railroad Park visitors on public run days.
Before 2015 the motor car track was about 800 feet long with the station located at the back of Railroad Park where many visitors did not even see the station and missed out on taking a ride.
In 2015 a dedicated crew led by Ken Hill and Allen Dobney added another 600 feet of track to the motor car line and moved the station to the front corner of the park.  The new station was desinged and built to be completely handicap accessable.
Shown to the right is out first motor car with the 2 trailing cars that carry passengers during run days.  The first car behind the motor car was converted from a hand pump car to increase capacity for riders.
To the left is our new station with the motor car train loading up with passengers during a sunny run day.  Come by and take a ride!!!
